Zoning determines the types of land uses that are permitted on a property, and provides regulations that shape visual character and intensity the use (setbacks, height, landscaping, screening requirements, etc.).  The Zoning Code is the primary resource for these regulations.  The zoning districts in the zoning code are depicted on the official zoning map of the Village.  The zoning map is adopted and published every March in order to reflect any zoning changes and parcel updates that occurred during the prior year.  An interactive version of the zoning map can be found on the GIS page.

In Vernon Hills, many areas are also subject to zoning regulations in Regional Planned Unit Developments (RPUDs) that were adopted according to an agreement with the property owner or developer at the time of annexation (see Annexation Agreements and Miscellaneous Documents).
