ComEd representatives recently reached out to the Village to advise that electric energy prices are expected to increase beginning in June.
This increase is due to both increased demand and less reliable electric energy supply. Increased demand includes additional requirements of large data centers. The supply is also expected to be negatively impacted due to less reliability with older fossil fueled plants, as well as some fossil fuel plants being retired, leading to less capacity.
ComEd representatives shared energy supply price increases, which originate from PJM, a regional transmission organization that coordinates the movement of wholesale electric energy in all or parts of 13 states, including Illinois. It is estimated that households can expect a 10 to 15 percent increase in ComEd electric bills beginning in June, which will be reflected on the July bill.
