The "official" (suggested) trick-or-treat schedule for the Village of Vernon Hills is Thursday, October 31 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Safety Tips for Kids:
- Children are encouraged to trick-or-treat with an adult, or stay in a group.
- Trick-or-treat in your own neighborhood, or at houses of people known to you.
- Do not enter a home or a vehicle if you do not know the people.
- Wear costumes that are easy to walk in, and that are easy for you to see – face paint is much easier than a mask!
- Wear costumes and/or carry lights so that you are more easily seen by drivers.
- Stay on sidewalks where possible; Be very careful crossing the street – don't run, but rather carefully check for cars before crossing.
- Be kind, courteous and respectful.
- If a neighbor does not have their lights on, or displays a "No, we are not participating" sign, please be respectful and skip that home.
- Wait until you get home for an adult to check your candy before eating any. (Adults, throw away any opened or un-prepackaged items.)
- Be safe – have fun!
Tips for Adults:
- Drivers, be extra careful – go slowly – take care of all of the children who may be excited about the evening!
- Do not invite children into your home, or offer to give rides.
- If you want to participate, please turn on your outside lights.
- If you do not care to participate, consider hanging out a "No" poster on your entry.
