[ARCHIVED] Storm Clean Up

TreeonRoad27April24horizontal

In an effort to help clean up from the August 27 storm, the Vernon Hills Public Works Department is moving through impacted neighborhoods collecting fallen branches and storm debris, as well as sweeping the streets.

Residents are asked to please have materials pulled to the curb by Friday, September 6 at the latest.

The clean up process will then take a few weeks more, as collecting, chipping and hauling accumulated debris takes some time. Thank you for your patience as we continue to move through and remove branches and brush. Thank you, also, to all who have been working, especially Public Works, VHPD, Park District, Vernon Township, Libertyville and neighbors who have worked tirelessly to clear streets and get things back to normal.

ALERT: The Village has also been alerted to solicitors going door-to-door offering to make repairs. Please note that severe storms often bring out "storm chasers," who come into an area to take advantage of residents.

With all repairs, please do your due diligence. Beware of scammers and less-than-reputable vendors. Check references. Vendors should be licensed, and any work you agree to should be outlined in a written contract. For most work, Village permits are required -- and those permits give you the benefit of an inspection ensuring work is done appropriately.

Note that while door-to-door solicitors are supposed to register with the Village and apply for a permit, the recent influx of solicitors appear to all be providing fake documentation – another indicator to make us think twice and do our research.

Most importantly, you never need to open your door or answer your phone for anyone. It isn't rude, it is a matter of safety.

If you ever feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or want to report an interaction, please reach out to VHPD by calling 911.

Thank you to all who are working to support our neighbors who were hardest hit by the recent storm.
