Clarke will be performing a Village-wide spray for adult mosquitos on the evening of Wednesday, July 17 – weather permitting.
Residents may call contact Clarke to be added to their "Prior Notification List" for the Village of Vernon Hills. Residents will be asked to provide name, home address, email and/or phone number to receive an automated message from Clarke the day of a mosquito spray. Access the list by calling the Clarke Mosquito Hotline at 630-671-3100 or visiting Clarke.com and setting up a notification account in the Clarke Customer Portal.
Residents are also encouraged to follow the CDC recommendations for preventing mosquito bites:
- Wear EPA-approved repellant containing DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or Oil of Lemon/Eucalyptus.
- Limit skin exposure by wearing long pants and long sleeves. Light colored clothing is also recommended as mosquitos and other pests are often attracted to dark colors.
- Limit outdoor time at dawn and dusk, which is when mosquitos are most active.
- Control mosquitos indoors and outdoors:
• Use air conditioning and/or screens to prevent mosquitos from entering your home
• Get rid of standing water to stop mosquitos from laying eggs
• Keep grass cut – long grass is a haven for adult mosquitos as well as other pests
• Tip and/or toss containers that hold even the smallest amount of water – buckets, pools, birdbaths, flowerpots, trash containers, outside toys, etc.
• Set up a fan, indoors or out. The breeze helps keep mosquitos away from you.
