Lake County communities (including Vernon Hills) were notified on December 13 that the railroad Quiet Zone has been reinstated by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). It is anticipated that over the coming week, engineers will again cease sounding their train horns at each crossing in the county.
Note that engineers still may find it appropriate to sound their horns, and may do so at their discretion for safety purposes.
