This morning, heavy traffic was encountered on route 45 near the Vernon Hills Metra station. The rush hour southbound traffic was almost halted to the roadwork activity. Traffic was limited to a single lane and road workers alternated northbound and southbound traffic. The problem is that it's rush hour and it's heavier on the southbound side. The traffic caused many commuters to miss the morning Metra and caused many people to run across the tracks. We made the 7:19am train but many others were scrambling across the tracks.
Here's my idea:
In the morning, detour the northbound traffic on 45 to Fairway Drive. All nearby residents heading northbound can go southbound onto 45 to get on Fairway Drive to head north. (This is easier anyways than dealing with the single lane traffic.) Westbound Townline Road is relatively light. This will allow free-flowing southbound traffic.
Then swap directions in the afternoon and detouring 45 southbound traffic to south 83 or north to Butterfield.
