Family Aquatic Center Season Passes Early Bird 10% Discount Season Passes to the Family Aquatic Center are on sale through April 30. Passes may be purchased at the Sullivan Community Center, Lakeview Fitness, or online at vhparkdistrict.org. Opening day at the Family Aquatic Center is May 26 from 11 am-7 pm.
Earth Day Family Event is April 20 from 4:30-6:30 pm at the Park District Park Maintenance Facility, 1400 Indianwood Drive, Vernon Hills. Celebrate Earth Day with the Park District with activities the entire family will enjoy! Take home sustainable/environmentally responsible items for your home, garden, and office. Enjoy games, activities, craft, and live music too! No registration required.
The 18th Annual Loop the Lakes 5K Run / Walk is Saturday, April 21 at 9 am at the Century Park Pavilion, 1401 Indianwood Drive, Vernon Hills. Support the Vernon Hills Park District Scholarship Program! The USA Track & Field/Road RunningTechnical Council Certified course winds through picturesque Century Park, one of Lake County's most beautiful community parks. Runners and walkers can enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds of nature as they loop around Big Bear and Little Bear Lakes. This course does have small hills and inclines. Post-race snacks and water will be provided. Awards are given to best overall male and female as well as the top three finishers for each age group. T-shirt sizes are only guaranteed for those participants that sign up by April 8, 2018. Packet pick-up will be on site prior to the race. Online registration is also available on www.active.com. In the event of inclement weather, the race will be cancelled and partial refunds will be issued. Fee: $25.
Family Kite Fly is a free event on Saturday, April 21 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Century Park Island Shelter, 1001 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills. Circle the skies high above Century Park flying a kite! Come on out to this free, family event to support the Illinois Association of Park Districts’ “Flying 4 Kids” program which promotes the sale of Park District license plates that feature a kite design. Proceeds from the sale of kite themed license plates support after school programming. Bring your own kite or purchase one at the event for $6. Park at the Century Park Boat Dock Shelter parking lot and walk up to the island picnic shelter. No registration necessary.
Lakeview Fitness Personal Training Special Members and non-members may take advantage of this special – purchase 5-60 minute personal training sessions for $199 between April 23-29, 2018.Training sessions must be redeemed within 6 months from purchase date. Special can be purchased on-line or in-person at Lakeview Fitness.
Pitch, Hit & Run This free program is offered to boys and girls, ages 7-14, on April 28 from 1-4 pm at the Grosse Pointe Park baseball fields, 900 Grosse Pointe Blvd., Vernon Hills. Pitch Hit & Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball®. This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete; free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills. All participants must have their parent or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form obtained from the Sullivan Community Center or Lakeview Fitness, or online at www.PitchHitRun.com. Boys and girls, ages 7-14, must provide a copy of a valid birth certificate for age verification.
Recycle-O-Rama is Saturday, May 19 from 9 am-1 pm at the Hawthorn Mall in the Sears parking lot.
The Park District is partnering with the Village of Vernon Hills, Vernon Township, State Representative Carol Sente, SWALCO, and Hawthorn Mall on this event. There is a limit of two boxes of paper shredding per vehicle. Latex paint costs $3/gallon and payment can be cash or credit. There will be no chemical waste recycling at this event. Items to be collected: CRT monitors, laptops, CD/DVD players, cell phones, televisions, printers, computer towers, and small appliances.
GO Vernon Hills Kick Off Event is Wednesday, May 23 from 6-7 pm in Deerpath Park, 299 Onwentsia Road, Vernon Hills. Meet in the parking lot near the tennis courts. GO Vernon Hills, presented by the Vernon Hills Park District, is a community walking movement designed to promote community values of health and wellness through activities, education and community collaboration. The Vernon Hills Park District has partnered with the Lake County Health Department on its county wide initiative to improve the health of Lake County residents. Walking is a gentle, low-impact exercise that is easy, free and accessible to everyone. Live Well Lake County is promoting the simple act of walking as a means to improve health. All residents and friends of Vernon Hills are encouraged to make a commitment to themselves to get moving for 30 minutes each day. GO Vernon Hills invites the community to join us as we walk to better health!
Picnic Shelter Permits are available at the Sullivan Community Center. Eight District parks have picnic shelters available for rental with capacities ranging from 20-150 people. Refer to the Spring/Summer brochure for picnic shelter descriptions and amenities.
