Special Events and Upcoming Programs at the Vernon Hills Park District

Century Park Sled Hill & Skating Rinks are located near the pavilion at 1400 Indianwood Drive, Vernon Hills. Two ice rinks, one for hockey, the other for general skating, and the sled hill will be open when conditions are safe for winter activities.  Call the Weather Hotline at 847-996-6616 or visit the website for details. The pavilion is open on weekends from 1 pm-9 pm and offers free skate rentals and concessions when the rinks and/or sled hill is open. The ice rinks and sled hill are lit until 9 pm daily.

Lakeview Fitness Annual Membership Sale New members will receive a $50 Park District Gift Card when purchasing a new Annual Fitness Membership between January 1-9.  Lakeview Fitness is a full service fitness facility equipped with an indoor pool, cardio and weight rooms, group exercise studio, and offers babysitting services. Lakeview Fitness is located at 700 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills.
 
Cheers to Five years at Lakeview Fitness! The community is invited to a free day at Lakeview Fitness in celebration of their five year anniversary!  From 8-11 am, prizes will be raffled off hourly, door prizes for the first 100 guests; special group exercise classes and refreshments will be offered. The community is invited to stay for the day and take advantage of the indoor pool and fitness rooms too.
 
Keep Warm & Tri On is an indoor triathlon at Lakeview Fitness that will take place during the month of January.  Participants have 31 days to swim 2 ½ miles (83 laps) in the indoor pool, bike 115 miles on the stationery bikes, and run/walk 26 miles on the treadmills or participants can use their personal pedometers.  Progress is tracked on charts located in the facility.  There will be prizes for all participants and awards for the top finishers in age groups.  The R/NR fee to participate is $10/15.  Non-members must purchase a 30-day pass to Lakeview Fitness to participate in the triathlon.
 
Winter Fest is a free, family event on Saturday, January 13, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, in Century Park.  There will be a live ice sculpting show presented by Chicago Ice Works; Free Spirit Siberian Rescue will perform dog sled demonstrations and speak about dog training; horse & carriage rides around Century Park; cookie decorating and snow painting; ice skating and sledding (weather permitting); bonfire and marshmallow roasting, and concessions!  No registration is required.  Dress warm and enjoy a winter afternoon outdoors.  The pavilion will be open to warm up and enjoy concessions.
 
Just the Two of Us, a special evening of dancing for girls, ages 3-8 years and their dads, is Friday, February 9 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Sullivan Community Center.  A DJ will provide music for dancing. Couples can get creative at the ice cream/dessert bar and enjoy planned games too!  All girls will receive a keepsake of this special night. R/NR Fee: $20/25 couple, $10/12 each additional child. Pre-registration is required. 
 
Craft Beer Tasting – An event just for adults! The Park District is hosting its 5th annual Craft Beer Tasting event on Saturday, March 3 from 5-9 pm at the Sullivan Community Center.  There will be several area breweries pouring samples of their ales, lagers, and stouts.  Along with celebrating the microbrews of the area’s most skilled brew masters, you can listen to live music. Food will be available for purchase.  Receive a free tasting glass with each ticket.  Participants must be 21 years or older to attend.  Fee: $30 through February 23; $35 thereafter (if not sold out).  Designated driver tickets are available at the door for $10. A Ski/Snowboard trip is planned for Friday, March 5 from 8:00 am -6:15 pm at Alpine Valley Resort in East Troy, Wisconsin.  Students in grades 5-8 can choose to either snow ski or snowboard.  Details about this trip can be found on the District’s website or in the Winter  2018 brochure.
