Reminder: Open Burning is NOT Permitted in Vernon Hills
Countryside Fire Protection District has responded to several open burning complaints and reminds Vernon Hills residents that OPEN BURNING IS NOT PERMITTED IN VERNON HILLS.
With many residents at home and starting springtime yard work please follow the Vernon Hills Village guidelines for yard waste disposal which has begun as of April 1st.
As we move into outdoor activities at home, Countryside Fire Protection District allows outdoor fireplaces and fire pits only when firewood is used for recreation purposes in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. As grilling activities increase please follow these safety tips: Only grill on noncombustible surface 10 feet from any structure or combustible material, noncombustible surface includes concrete, brick pavers, asphalt, gravel, dirt. Do not grill on a wooden or synthetic material decks or balconies. Have a proper lid or grill top, pay attention to wind direction and do not grill or use fire pit with winds greater than 15mph. Have a proper disposal of ashes and douse coals thoroughly with water after use. Never leave children or pets near unattended heat sources. Use proper tools, BBQ Mitts and pay attention to loose clothing. CHILDREN LEARN FROM WHAT PARENTS DO, GASOLINE & FIRE NEVER MIX.
