Vernon Hills, IL – During a special meeting on March 19, the Vernon Hills Village Board approved an ordinance to support the Village’s emergency preparedness. Trustees unanimously passed Ordinance 2020-025, which amends Village Code with regard to the Village President’s authority to declare a State of Emergency pursuant to 65/ILCS 5/11-2-6. This type of ordinance allows municipalities to enable Village services to continue during emergency situations, such as when a quorum of Trustees is not available to make decisions. With the passage of this Ordinance, Village President Roger Byrne then declared a State of Emergency for Vernon Hills.
The passing of the Ordinance and Declaration of Emergency allows for greater flexibility for the Village to ensure that decisions can continue to be made and key services continue to be provided. This temporary declaration ensures the continuation of processes, including scheduling employees, paying bills, and receiving delivery of essential items.
