Vernon Hills Named A Tree City USA Community for 27th Year!

The Village of Vernon Hills was named a Tree City USA community for 2018, marking the 27th year in a row that we have been awarded this honorable designation. The standards that must be met in order to be named a Tree City USA are: 1- Having a tree board or department 2- Having a community tree ordinance 3- A forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita (we exceed this amount by nearly 4 times) and 4- An Arbor Day observance and proclamation

A healthy urban forest has many benefits for Vernon Hills. Trees help to reduce energy costs, aid with stormwater management, increase property values, and helps our residents to build stronger ties to their community. Being named a Tree City USA demonstrates our commitment to our residents and our goal of a healthy, sustainable and resilient urban forest.
