American Legion to Dedicate Illinois Historical Marker at the VHAC

On September 7, 2018, Vernon American Legion Post 1247 will observe the 100th anniversary of the American Legion. Specifically, Post 1247 will dedicate an official Illinois Historical Marker at the athletic fields of Vernon Hills High School. This airfield was a part of the naval aviator aircraft carrier qualification training program that was conducted at Naval Air Station Glenview, this airfield, then on Lake Michigan using the aircraft carriers USS Sable and USS Wolverine.

The dedication ceremony will be in conjunction with the opening football game of the Vernon Hills High School season, and should last approximately 20 minutes.
