  2. None

  3. New Business
  1. Mr. Jeff Hauptman was introduced as a new appointee to the Traffic Advisory Committee.
  2. Grosse Point Traffic Violation Concerns.

    Issue

Local Citizens have had an ongoing dialog with the Vernon Hills Police Traffic Enforcement Division concerning a perceived high level of speeding and reckless driving incidences on the local residential streets.

    Details / Concerns

Ms. Naegele and Ms. Zelinske presented a letter which outlined the steps that they have taken in concert with the Police department to mitigate perceived excessive speeding. These actions include:

    Increased police enforcement presence

Utilization of the Police Department Speed Monitoring Trailer

Grass roots communication with their neighbors

Chief of Police Fleischauer presented data collected from the Police Department Speed Monitoring Trailer. This data indicated that while some speeding does occur, most speeding falls within the unenforceable range, and the majority of the traffic flows at or below the posted speed limits. Chief Fleischauer did indicate that normally available traffic resources within the Grosse Pointe sub-division would be directed to those locations that were identified by the Speed Monitoring Trailer to have the worst offenses

    • Motion:

No motion was presented. The petitioners were commended for their grass roots efforts and were encouraged to work with local residents to continue to report unlawful activities to the Police. Toward that end residents are encouraged to register for the Neighborhood Speed Watch and Warning program, using a radar speed detector available from the Police Department Community Affairs office.

  1. Uniform Manual of Traffic Signs
      • Issue:

Mr. Ed Laudenslauger presented the fact that several World Wide Web sites have now been made available for researching the requirements / warrants for installing traffic control devices.

      • Details / Concerns:

New requirements make it easier in some cases to justify the installation of Stop signs, yet the offsetting reasons to not install (Increase in "Hollywood" stops with resultant high acceleration rates, pedestrian reliance on vehicles stopping, etc.) are still valid and need to be considered in any determination.

A motion to adjourn was made by Ms. Oster and seconded by Mr. Hauptman. The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 PM.

The above constitutes the authors understandings of the proceedings
