OF THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE OF THE
WHOLE
MEETING FOR THE
VILLAGE OF VERNON HILLS
OCTOBER 26, 2000
IN
ATTENDANCE: President Byrne called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. The
following Trustees were present: Cashman, Hebda, Henley.
Also
present were Manager Allison, Assistant Manager Kalmar, Public Works Director
Laudenslager, Landscape Architect Poi and Village Clerk Schwartz.
1. ROUTE
45/21 CORRIDOR STUDY – CORRIDOR ANALYSIS AND COMMUNITY PLANNING
Present from the Lakota Group, Inc.:
John LaMotte, Gina Caruso, Amy Fell, and Scott Freres.
Mr. LaMotte presented the area map for
the Route 45/21 area and what is there now. Slides were shown on the specific
sites targeted: the Metra triangle, Kelly’s Day Camp and adjacent site, Route
21 adjacent to the Church, Route 45/21 intersection.
Mr. Freres discussed the schemes for
each area.
Metra Triangle
Scheme A: additional metra parking
totaling 700 spaces.
Scheme B: some additional parking,
soccer field.
Day Camp and Adjacent Site
Scheme A: corporate.
Scheme B: corporate with more green
space.
Scheme C: congregate care facility.
Scheme D: assisted living, corporate
retreat, offices, conference retreat, daycare center, open field for events.
Scheme E: single family housing
Route 21 Site Adjacent to Church
Scheme A: expanded church,
retail/office on frontage to Milwaukee.
Scheme B: different configuration.
Scheme C: frontage North to South.
Scheme D: different access
configuration.
Routes 45/21 Intersection
Scheme A: work around and improve existing
buildings.
Scheme B: Eliminate Half Day Inn, add
retail complex, ruralscape setback with town pond.
Scheme C: all new buildings, overlook
to lake system with creek walk.
Table discussion with residents present
were conducted. Comments on each scheme were gathered.
