It was a dark and stormy night. The clouds opened up and the sky rumbled with thunder and cracked with lightning. That was the picture of the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 7, 2007. With Hartmann Park underwater and the extended forecast of continuing lightning storms throughout the day and evening, we decided to change the venue of our NNO Celebration and we moved it indoors to the Public Works facility.
In little less than four hours, all the arrangements were made, and the event began to take shape under the protective roof which normally houses the Village's snow plows and heavy machinery. Many thanks to the hard working members of PW who dropped everything that day to make it all happen!
Despite all the unfavorable forecasts and gloomy weather overnight, the afternoon brought beautiful skies and not a drop of rain all night. That was just fine for us, as we were prepared for the worst ... and we were surprised with an estimated crowd of 900 people at this year's NNO!
Participants were treated to free BBQ food, drinks, slushees, bingo, games, inflatables, crafts, and even a little "rain" from our misting tent!
We even had a raffle to benefit slain police officers, which raised $505. Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed the night, helped us out, or sponsored the event (see below list).
