National Night Out

Back to Calendar

What is National Night Out?

Each 1st Tuesday of August, millions of people celebrate National Night Out (NNO) in neighborhoods across the country.  Celebrating community and law enforcement partnerships, NNO brings together citizens, law enforcement agencies, community groups, businesses, youth organizations and officials from communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide.

Over 35 million people in over 12,000 communities celebrated NNO last year.

NNO:

  • Heightens crime prevention awareness
  • Generates support for and participation in local anti-crime programs
  • Strengthens neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • Sends a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
What Can You Do?

Our next event will be Tuesday, August 6, 2013.  We will be at Century Park North (the Sled Hill) from 4pm to 8pm.

This will be our 18th year of participating in National Night Out!  Once again, we will have free food (while it lasts), games to play, inflatables to jump on and music to groove to.  This event is completely free and is meant for our residents to come out and get to know their neighbors as well as the police department members.

We will also be conducting our 9th Volleyball Tournament - and we challenge you to try and beat us!  Or, we may have a grudge match softball game with the Countryside Fire Protection District (the PD is the reigning champ of that, too).  Contact Ofc. Joseph at 847-247-4889 or sjoseph@vhills.org.  Also use this contact information if you have any questions or suggestions.

Our sponsors this year are Target (who is also the national sponsor of National Night Out), A-Z Entertainment, the Vernon  Hills Park District, the Countryside Fire Protection District and Record-a-Hit.

We hope to see you there!
