Thank you for choosing to participate in the 2011 Vernon Hills Pageant! Each year three young ladies are chosen to represent our Village as Little Miss Vernon Hills, Junior Miss Vernon Hills, and Miss Vernon Hills. The pageant is an enjoyable event for all those who participate; as a contestant you will experience fun activities, meet new people, and find ways to become more involved with the Village of Vernon Hills. While we believe that the pageant can be a rewarding experience for all who are involved, we do ask you to consider carefully your own desires and expectations for the pageant prior to applying for the competition. Although many beautiful, talented, and smart girls will compete for the title, in the end only three can be crowned. We hope you have as exciting of a time participating in the pageant as we do planning it!
Age Requirements:
- Little Miss: Contestants must be between the ages of 6-9 by the pageant date and cannot turn 10 prior to 10/01/11.
- Junior Miss: Contestants must be between the ages of 10-15 by the pageant date and cannot turn 16 prior to 10/01/11.
- Miss: Contestants must be between the ages of 16-22 by the pageant date and cannot turn 23 prior to 10/01/11.
* Please remember that we, as the Vernon Hills Pageant Directors, do not decide what the age requirements are. We are obligated to follow the age groups mandated by the Lake County Pageant System.
Competition Procedures:
Each contestant will compete and be scored in the following three categories:
Interview/35% of score
Each contestant will be interviewed the night before the pageant. Contestants will be judged on their ability to communicate effectively in an interview. The judges will be looking for young ladies who can be articulate and express their opinions well.
Little Miss: Interview outfit should be a nice, casual sundress or skirt outfit. Skirt length must not be shorter than 3” above the knee. You should wear dress shoes or dress sandals (no flip flops) that you feel comfortable walking in.
Daywear/Speech/35% of score
Each contestant will be required to model in a casual dress/suit and deliver a speech about an age appropriate topic. Information about speech topics and length will be provided at the first contestant meeting. Contestants will be judged on their ability to speak to a large group as well as stage presence.
Little Miss: Daywear outfit and heels should be the same as described for interview. You can wear a different outfit than that of interview, if you desire, but it is not required.
Formal Gown/Pop question/30% of score
The final portion of the competition will require each contestant to model in a formal gown. Each contestant within an age group will then answer the same pop question (contestants will be secluded prior to answering their question). Contestants will be judged on grace, poise, beauty, physical fitness and elegance of carriage during their presentation..
Little Miss: Your party dress can be long or short. If you choose a short dress it must be no shorter than 3” above the knee. Junior Miss: Your formal gown must be tea-length or floor length.
Additional Information:
- Little Miss Contestants will not be allowed to wear makeup (with the exception of CLEAR lip gloss or chap stick) during the competition- judges will be instructed to deduct points from those Little Miss Contestants who are seen with makeup on.
- In the case of a tie, the contestant who scores the highest in the interview will be crowned.

ELIGIBILITY RULES & INFORMATION
To be eligible to participate and be queen in Vernon Hills, the following must be agreed to:
- I am a resident of Vernon Hills with a Vernon Hills mailing address and a 60061 zip code.
- I am of the appropriate age for the title I am competing for.
- I will serve as Little Miss Vernon Hills until my successor is selected or appointed.
- I will make myself available for interviews, personal appearances, testimonials and other various commitments that the Vernon Hills Pageant has made and will make for me. If I miss any more than two events without permission from the Vernon Hills Pageant Directors, I will be forced to relinquish my title to the next eligible runner up.
- I give permission for my likeness to be replicated in any media form as consented by the Vernon Hills Pageant at its sole discretion.
- I understand that I may not be a current titleholder of another pageant in order to compete in the Lake County Pageant on Saturday, November 5, 2011.
- If I permanently move out of Vernon Hills (the 60061 zip code), enter another pageant other than the Lake County Community Pageant, or in any other way become ineligible I will immediately relinquish my crown and prizes to the next eligible runner-up. The Vernon Hills Pageant committee will administer this provision with the utmost integrity and sensitivity.
- I understand that I must be available to represent Vernon Hills at the Lake County Community Pageant.
- I understand that I must dress and act appropriately when representing Vernon Hills.
I understand that as a Vernon Hills Queen, I am representing Vernon Hills and must therefore dress and act appropriately. This includes not only while at pageant events but also how I choose to represent myself in my personal life and online. If the Vernon Hills Pageant committee deems a behavior inappropriate, I may be forced to relinquish my title to the next eligible runner up, depending on the severity of my behavior.
- I am a United States Citizen.
- Both the contestant and parents understand that they are participating in the Pageant on a voluntary basis and that there will be many beautiful, talented, smart and qualified contestants who participate. Understand that only one contestant in each of the age groups can be crowned. Appreciate that one of the principal benefits of your involvement in the Pageant is the experience the contestants receive throughout the process and having a successful Pageant experience is not determined by the final decision. Also understand that the Pageant is staffed by volunteers whose job is made very difficult due to the number of qualified contestants. Agree that you will not challenge or complain about the Pageant process or the final decisions because you know the Pageant staff are volunteers who are involved so that the contestants can benefit from the entire experience of being involved in a Pageant and not just the final decisions."
