July 4th Events

Back to Calendar

The celebrations get under way at 8:00 am at the corner of Deerpath and Atrium Blvd, when youngsters ages 4-12 adorn their bikes, scooters and wagons with banners, flags and other creative ideas for the Bike Decorating Contest.  The first & second place winners will receive a certificate for a day at the Vernon Hills Park District Aquatic Center.  All participants entering the contest will receive a ribbon and a gift certificate to Jersey Mike’s Sub Shop and Brunzwick Zone.  Contestants are invited to ride in the parade as long as accompanied by an adult.

WOW what a line up this year! The parade steps off at 9:00 A.M. at the corner of Deerpath and Atrium Drive, just south of Highway 60 (Town Line Road).  Participating this year are the Colts & Cadets, Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps, Rambler Band, and the Band of the Blackwatch, the Blooz Brothers, the Lawnchair Dad’s, costumed characters and the unicyclist so come early and mark out your spot early. Marching units will follow a parade route south to Sullivan Drive and then west to Aspen.  Demonstration areas will be marked along the route for your viewing pleasure.  We would ask that everyone respect the wishes of those who do not want to participate in squirt gun activities.

A huge thank you to the Vernon Hills Park District for sponoring the "Band of the Blackwatch" Drum and Bugle Corps for the parade and JP & the Cats for the evening events.

Join us at Century Park for from 6:30 to 9:30 PM for the rhythmic sounds of J.P and the Cats   At approximately 9:30 PM Honorable Mayor Roger Byrne will set the skies over Big Bear and Little Bear Lake ablaze with color as Melrose Pyrotechnics, Inc presents a dazzling aerial display of fireworks

GET ACTIVE AND USE YOUR IMAGINATION: Take part in the parade by getting your family, friends, playgroups, exercise partners together and create an entry for the parade. Start a tradition by being a part of the community and participate. Your Tuesday afternoon play group could become the “Silly Synchronized Strollers” or maybe “Dumpster Dads” with choreographed garbage can moves or the “Handy Man Blues” musical group with tools!! Instead of sitting on the sidelines, get creative and have some fun.
