The Public Works Department maintains a robust supply of landscape woodchips at their facility at the corner of Greenleaf Drive and Butterfield Road. This material is generated over the winter from tree trimming and Christmas Tree pickup.
Mulch is very beneficial in many ways. It is used for appearance, weed control, water conservation, erosion control, and improves soil structure. Mulch should be applied about 3-4" thick and pulled back away from the bark of trees and shrubs.
The woodchips are free, available at any time, and ready right now. Residents will need to bring their own shovel and container. Contact the Vernon Hills Public Works Department for more information (847) 367-3726.
