Our 2011 Event is scheduled for September 10th and 11th! Recap of the 2010 Event: Talk about an awesome weekend! 21 police and police-related agencies were on hand at Westfield Hawthorn Mall (Routes 21 and 60 in Vernon Hills) on the weekend of September 11-12, 2010 for the 6th Annual Law Enforcement Exhibition. Squad cars from many different departments, a Spyder, police motorcycles, 6-wheel ATV and an 8-wheel ATV are just some of the police equipment that were seen. There were many activities for the kids and plenty of giveaways and information! We also had a police helicopter land on-site on Saturday and three K-9 demonstrations throughout the weekend, presented by Palatine PD, the Lake County Sheriff's Office and Wauconda PD. For the past several years, we have been having an informal fundraiser at the Expo. Each participating agency was provided with a donation jar and asked to help raise money for COPS (Concerns Of Police Survivors), a non-profit organization that provides counseling, scholarships and other financial support for the families of police officers who have given their lives to protect others. This year's winner (by a long shot) was the Grayslake Police Department, who raised $212.23. Altogether, we raised $637.01! Thanks so much to all who contributed to this worthy cause. Thanks to Westfield Hawthorn Mall and Manager Tim Geiges for their continued support of this fantastic event and for all their help in making this such a success! They have informed us that over 47,000 people attended the mall that weekend! See below for more information and pictures from this year's event! History of the Expo
In 2005, we hosted the inaugural Exhibition here in Vernon Hills. The event drew thousands of interested citizens locally and from all around the Chicagoland area. Due to its overwhelming success, Chief Mark Fleischhauer decided to make it an annual event. Furthermore, the event will always be scheduled during the week of September 11th, in order to honor our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice on that day in 2001.
This Exhibition was set up so police departments can show you the latest and greatest in crime prevention, education and criminal detection. Think of it as one big "open house" where Lake County agencies are present to show you the ins and outs of what the police can do for you - besides writing you a ticket! For 2010, the following Lake County, Cook County and other agencies were on hand throughout the weekend:
