Our 2012 Event is scheduled for September 8th and 9th!
Recap of the 2011 Event: To say it was the "best one ever" would not be wrong! 19 police and police-related agencies were on hand at Westfield Hawthorn Mall (Routes 21 and 60 in Vernon Hills) on the weekend of September 10-11, 2011 for the 7th Annual Law Enforcement Exhibition. Squad cars from many different departments, police motorcycles and an 8-wheel ATV are just some of the police equipment that were seen. There were many activities for the kids and plenty of giveaways and information! We also had a police helicopter land on-site on Saturday and four K-9 demonstrations throughout the weekend, presented by the Buffalo Grove PD, the Wauconda PD and the Niles PD. The Freemasons helped parents create free child ID kits for their children, containing photos, videos, fingerprints and DNA samples. They ran out of kits and promised to bring more next year.
But what made this year especially memorable was the 9/11 Ceremony that was held on Sunday, September 11. An honor guard presented the colors while 2 Vernon Hills High School students sang the National Anthem and played taps. There was a moment of silence before the Countryside Fire Protection District rang the bell to remember the many victims of that tragic event 10 years ago. The ceremony ended with an emotional chorus of Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. Be sure to check out the pictures below!
Thanks to Westfield Hawthorn Mall and Manager Tim Geiges for their continued support of this fantastic event and for all their help in making this such a success! They have informed us that over 43,000 people attended the mall that weekend!
History of the Expo
In 2005, we hosted the inaugural Exhibition here in Vernon Hills. The event drew thousands of interested citizens locally and from all around the Chicagoland area. Due to its overwhelming success, Chief Mark Fleischhauer decided to make it an annual event. Furthermore, the event will always be scheduled for the weekend closest to September 11th, in order to honor our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice on that day in 2001.
This Exhibition was set up so police departments can show you the latest and greatest in crime prevention, education and criminal detection. Think of it as one big "open house" where Lake County agencies are present to show you the ins and outs of what the police can do for you - besides writing you a ticket!
For 2011, we had the following agencies attend:
INTERACTIVE DISPLAYS BY VHPD:
- FireArms Training Simulator (FATS)
- Bagg-O
- Get your "Mug Shot" taken
