Explorer Training

One of the purposes of Law Enforcement Exploring is to expose the police explorer to the wide variety of situations and circumstances that police officers encounter on a daily basis.  Vernon Hills Explorer Post 2920 offers a wide variety of training and instruction.  The topics include:

  • Self-Defense
  • Domestic Violence Intervention
  • Traffic Stops
  • Crime Scene Processing
  • Criminal Law
  • Building Searches
  • Felony Suspect Arrest
  • Bomb Scene Investigation
  • CPR
  • Hostage Negotiations
  • Firearms
  • Arrest and Search Techniques
  • Traffic Accident Investigation
  • White Collar Crimes
  • Narcotics Investigation
  • Gangs
  • Crowd/Traffic Control

Explorers are given classroom instruction and also participate in hands-on scenarios.  In these scenarios, the Explorer must make the determination of what course of action to take; what laws, if any, were broken; and ultimately, how to resolve the situation safely, legally and professionally.

The training the Explorers receive serves several purposes.  First, it allows the Explorer to better understand what is involved in being a police officer.  Secondly, it can prove beneficial if the Explorer decides to pursue a career in the criminal justice field.  Lastly, the Explorers can use these skills in both the Illinois State Conference and the National Conference.
