June 20, 2011 - Several local towns are warning business owners of an advertising scam being perpetrated by Edward Zapencki, of Kenosha. Zapencki allegedly owns a business named Fun Treasure Maps. Zapencki solicits small business owners to advertise on cartoon-style maps prepared for targeted communities. He collects payment in full, but has been slow to produce the promised advertisements - if at all. Mundelein and Lake Zurich have had reports made, as well as many communities in Wisconsin, where the Attorney General's office has filed an enforcement action against Zapencki.
Please warn any small business owners you know to be wary of smooth-talking sales people who want money up front and don't offer a written guarantee of what you're getting and when. If anyone has had contact with Edward Zapencki, please contact your local police agency.
