Toys for Tots '09

December 18, 2009 - It's been a tough year for many.  Layoffs.  Pay cuts.  Higher rates.  A lot of people can't afford to spend as much for the holidays - and that includes giving to one's own family as well as others.  The Marine Corps has stated that they are 150,000 toys short this year in their Toys for Tots program.

Employees of the Village of Vernon Hills were able to pool together some money for Toys for Tots.  And thanks to Kohl's providing a generous discount, we were able to purchase $340 worth of toys!

"We are so happy to be able to provide even a few more children with some happiness for the holidays," said Crime Prevention Officer Sharon Joseph.  "And thanks to all those wonderful people who brought in toys for this wonderful cause."

December 21, 2009 - People were sure busy - and generous - over the weekend!  The Marine Corps was unable to make it out to pick up the toys on Friday, as planned, but that's a good thing because a LOT more toys were dropped off over the weekend.  What a great Christmas this will be for some kids who otherwise would have gotten nothing!

Lots of toys were dropped off over the weekend!

December 22, 2009 - The Marine Corp is so busy, they weren't able to make that pick-up yesterday.  But that turned out to be a great thing!  Learning Resources, a local educational product company, dropped by late yesterday afternnoon... with at least 500 games and puzzles!  Our entire reception area is completely filled with toys and we couldn't be happier!  Thanks so much to Learning Resources and their generosity!
