June 6, 2010 - Once again, members of the Vernon Hills Police Department have done their part to help the Special Olympics. Each year, several members don running shoes and shorts and hit the road for our three-mile leg down Milwaukee Avenue. The torch is passed from police department to police department in an effort to raise money and awareness for the cause. Great job everyone! In March, members of the VHPD jumped into Lake Michigan for the Polar Plunge in the first of three fund-raising opportunities. In May, volunteers went "Up on the Rooftop" of Dunkin' Donuts to help raise money for the Special Olympics as well. Runners in the 2010 Torch Run included Officers Shannon Holubetz and Jim Koch, Sgt. Jim Levicki (along with his son Jake), Commander Dianne Wesley, and Deputy Chief Bill Price's son, Kevin. Check back soon for pictures for to recap the '10 run.
