Law Enforcement Torch Run

June 10, 2012 - Once again, members of the Vernon Hills Police Department have done their part to help the Special Olympics. Each year, several members don running shoes and shorts and hit the road for our three-mile leg down Milwaukee Avenue. The torch is passed from police department to police department in an effort to raise money and awareness for the cause. Great job everyone!

In March, members of the VHPD jumped into Lake Michigan for the Polar Plunge in the first of three fund-raising opportunities. Earlier in June, volunteers went "Up on the Rooftop" of Dunkin' Donuts to help raise money for the Special Olympics as well.

Runners in the 2012 Torch Run included Officers Rebecca Foy (along with husband Francis), Jeff Cielak (along with his daughter Alena), Ken Berryhill, and Shannon Holubetz; Commanders Pat Zimmerman and Dianne Wesley; and Telecommunicator Jim Neuhaus. Many thanks to them for taking part in this year's run during the extreme heat ... see below for a few pictures from the day.
