January 20, 2009 - Officer Friendly (Officer Joseph) was extremely excited when K-9 Officer Utter told her that Swee Pea wanted to come to Vernon Hills. Swee Pea is a dog that is, literally, known around the world. She's won the Guiness Book of World Records (3 times) for the most number of jumps with a jump rope in 60 seconds (62, then 65 and finally 75!). She's won World Records in France, Germany and Spain. She was recently on the Oprah show. And now she's taking a well-deserved rest. Swee Pea, owned by Alex Rothaker (owner of TOPS Training in Grayslake), held her very last public performance at Hawthorn Elementary South to a crowd of over 600 excited students and an Animal Planet filming crew. Swee Pea, a border collie/australian shepherd mix, wowed the kids with her perfect performance of jumping through hoops, jumping rope and, what she alone is famous for: walking with a glass of water on her nose (she does this up stairs and down stairs - forwards AND backwards!). Although we will miss her, we hope that Swee Pea has a restful retirement.
