Sad News

March 15, 2011 - It's part of nature.  It's expected.  It's very sad.  Both of our K-9s (Bullet and Storm) were retired in 2009 and now, sadly, both have passed away within a few weeks of each other.

Bullet started his career at the VHPD in May of 1999.  He served for 10 years before retiring in January of 2009.  He was just shy of his 14th birthday when he passed away this weekend.

Storm began in October 2001 and retired later in 2009.  He was 12 years old when he passed away last month.

To memorialize our law enforcement partners like Bullet and Storm, a new group has formed: Northern Illinois Police K9 Memorial.  Lake County Sherrif's Officer Anthony Fanella started the group to be able to honor his own dearly departed K9 partner, Sinbad.  Click here for a Daily Herald article regarding the group and its mission.

To help raise funds for this memorial, Jimano's Pizzeria will donate a portion of their pizza sales tomorrow, Wednesday, March 16.  Click here to download a flyer (please note: the Mundelein telephone number should be 949-8400, not 9400).

Good night, Bullet and Storm.  We'll miss you!
