September 19, 2011 - On September 23, Officer Jim Koch will travel to Oakbrook, Illinois, where he will receive an award from the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association for his efforts pertaining to the Vernon Hills High School Pre-Prom Assembly and Crash Re-enactment. During the last four years, Officer Koch has served as the Vernon Hills High School Resource Officer (SRO) and he has been responsible for orchestrating the pre-prom assembly and crash re-enactment. Vernon Hills High School's Pre-Prom Assembly and Crash Re-enactment takes place every other year for junior and senior level students. The goal is to keep teens safe during one of the most dangerous times of the year for teens - prom and graduation season. This event brings together members of the Vernon Hills Police Department, Countryside Fire Protection District, Flight for Life (medical helicopter) and Vernon Hills High School student actors. The 2010 Vernon Hills High School Pre-Prom Assembly was videotaped and copies of the videotape have made their way across the state, serving as a model for other schools' pre-prom activities.
