Report Suspicious People

December 15, 2009 -  On Friday, December 11, a resident on Evergreen Drive experienced a Residential Burglary - someone had broken into their house while they were out during the day (between 7 am and 2 pm) and stole some of their personal property.  We are pursuing several leads, including some footware impressions we found in the snow outside the resident's home.

Shortly before the residents came home, another nearby resident reported a suspicious person to us.  A male Hispanic had come to the resident's door and rang the doorbell.  The resident didn't answer, but observed the subject looking into the window next to the door.  The resident exited the house (through a different door) and spoke with the subject in his driveway.  The subject told the resident he was looking for snow plow work, but the subject, who had parked his car in the resident's driveway, did not have a plow on his vehicle.  In fact, the subject drove a white Cavalier-type, 4-door car, with a license plate starting with "G9."  Although the subject appeared to be holding a plastic container with business cards, he did not offer the resident one.  When the resident advised the subject he wasn't interested, the subject left the area in his car, not stopping to solicit at other houses.

The subject was further described as being in his late 30's to 40's.  He was approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and 180 pounds with a thin build.  He had medium length, dark hair, which was combed back from his forehead.  He was wearing a white coat, blue jeans and shoes that were similar to the type of shoe that made the footprints in the snow at the house that was burglarized.

If anyone can provide any further information on this subject or his vehicle, please call the Vernon Hills Police Department and ask for Detective Berryhill.

And, in general, be aware of solicitors.  If they appear suspicious, looking into windows, or just don't seem to be believable, feel free to contact the PD with as much information as you can provide.  We would be happy to check them out.

December 22, 2009 - **** UPDATE ****       The Gurnee Police Department also had an incident similar to this one.  The resident was able to create a composite of the suspect (below).  The description of the Gurnee suspect and the one from our town are very similar.  If anyone has any information on this suspect, please contact VHPD or Gurnee PD.
