December 6, 2011 - Today the VHPD joined over 5,000 other law enforcement agencies on OffenderWatch. OffenderWatch is a national database that tracks sex offenders in member jurisdictions. The best part of this website is that when an offender provides new information to us, we add the information to the websidte and it becomes immediately available.
Another perk to this system is that a user can register as many addresses as they want to track and if any changes occur within a mileage radius they determine (a quarter mile to 2 miles), they will be sent an e-mail.
"Citizens have a right to know who may be living near them and could potentially pose a threat to their families," said Chief Mark Fleischhauer. "The Vernon Hills Police Department has the most up-to-date information on all offenders registered and I am happy to provide that information to them."
While not every Lake County jurisdiction is a member on the OffenderWatch website, more are joining all the time.
