NNO 2012

August 8, 2012 - Another National Night Out hits the books - with the usual flair!  Hundreds of people danced, jumped, played volleyball and other games and, new this year, visited the Bookmobile for some good reads.  And let's not forget the food!  Over 1,200 hot dogs and hamburgers were devoured, along with chips, drinks, and a little bit of watermelon that wasn't used for our Watermelon Eating Contests.  Wow!

We can't thank our sponsors enough for all the help they provided.  Vernon Hills' Public Works teams made the grounds look great - and kept them looking clean throughout the evening.  Target provided so many volunteers, we almost didn't have enough for them to do!  But they did a great job at our craft table.  The Citizen's Police Academy graduates did a great job at our food table.  The Boy Scouts helped out with the games.  A-Z Entertainment, as usual, did a fabulous job at getting everyone in a rockin' mood!  Record-a-Hit provided some fabulous inflatables.  Firemedic Tony Rodkey helped the kids get soaked with the fire department hose way out in the outfield.

Target employees also ran the Simon Says and Watermelon Eating contests - as well as providing the $10 gift card prizes. Congratulations to Micah Anders for wining the Simon Says contest!  I think the Watermelon Eating contests got a little out of hand, so I'm not sure exactly what happened there (sorry, I don't have any names to post)!

The Volleyball Tournament had mixed results for us.  But just remember, we only had 2 substitutes and the team played 6 matches.  In a row.  That's 18 games!  Here are the results of how the teams fared against us:

  • Team Face It: lost
  • Hawthorn 73 Team 1: lost
  • Hawthorn 73 Team 2: won
  • Team Target: won
  • Another team snuck in here and I don't know the result
  • Team Library: lost

The super-coveted (and brand new) medals were bestowed upon the players by our Vernon Hills Queens: Miss Natalie Chiarello, Junior Miss Brianna Bolotin and Little Miss Valerie Burda.

Thanks to all who helped and all who attended.  Once again, this was a great event and we can't wait to do it again next year!

Check out the photos of all the fun!
