Latest Phone Scam

December 1, 2009 - Lincolnshire police are warning of a potential phone scam in which callers are posing as village employees in an attempt to obtain personal information from residents.

Detective Adam Hyde said a group of men have been calling homeowners in Lincolnshire and neighboring communities, claiming they are doing a survey about the village's water department.  The men identify themselves as employees of the Lincolnshire Water Department and, after becoming friendly with the homeowners, start asking for personal information.

Luckily, no one has stayed on the line long enough to give vital information to these callers, such as social security numbers, but the potential is there.

Please remember to never give such personal information out over the phone, especially to someone who has called you.  If you are suspicious, ask the caller for a number to call them back at and then call police.

If you have been a victim of this particular scam, please contact your police department and provide as much information as you can regarding the caller.
