October 27, 2011 - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security / FEMA is going to conduct the first ever nation-wide test of the Emergency Alert System. This test will be similar to the local and State tests that we have seen periodically, but will originate from the Federal level. This will be the first time this type of alert is conducted. It may take up to three and half minutes and will interrupt broadcast radio and televions stations, cable television, satellite radio and television stations and wire line video services. This test/alert will occur on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 1:00 pm (CST).
During the test, the public will hear an audio message stating, "This is a test," which will the same for radio and TV.
The public is encouraged to share this information to reduce the potential for increased calls to local police and fire departments or to 9-1-1 centers.
AGAIN, there will be a TEST of the Emergency Alert System on 11/9/11 at 1:00 pm. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Crime Prevention Unit at 847-247-4889.
