Blackboard Connect Message

November 30, 2011 - Yesterday, November 29 at 4:00 pm, the Vernon Hills Police Department sent out a Blackboard Connect message to all residents who are signed up for the service.  It was a warning regarding the recent ruse burglaries in the area.  Below is the message that was conveyed:

"This is a community alert from the Vernon Hills Police Department.  Surrounding communities have experienced several ruse burglaries during the last several months.  A ruse burglary is a crime in which someone distracts the homeowner, while a second person enters the home and looks for things to steal.  Often these individuals will pose as utility, government employees or contractors.  The police department advises to not give any information or to allow anyone inside your home that you did not invite.  Call 9-1-1 to report any suspicious activity or anything that seems out of of place in your neighborhood.,  Keep all doors and windows to your cars and homes locked at all times.  For more information about this crime alert, contact the Crime Prevention Unit at 847-247-4889 or go to the village website at /."
