December 10, 2009 - The Buffalo Grove Police Department has reported a residential burglary where the suspect acted as a utility worker. At 1:30 pm on December 7, a resident who was taking out his garbage was approached by a male white or Hispanic, who told him he was with a utility company. The suspect wanted to show the victim where the company would be removing a section of the victim's fence. The victim went with the suspect to his backyard, where the suspect kept him talking for about ten minutes. In the meantime, the suspect's partner entered the unlocked front door and stole cash from the residence. The suspect appeared to be driving an extended cab pickup. Please be aware of this latest scam. Never allow a stranger to lure you away from an unlocked door. If you are unsure, ask the person for identification and/or a phone number to call immediately. Never invite them into your house. Call the police if you become suspicious. We all know that times are hard. Don't let criminals rob you of your hard-earned valuables and peace of mind.
