January 6, 2010 - You can now obtain Traffic Accident (Crash) Reports online! On January 1, 2010, the Vernon Hills Police Department signed a contract with Docview to provide accident reports online in a much quicker timeframe. The old way required a person to complete an Accident Report Request form, get it to the Police Deparment and then wait for the document to be ready before coming to pick it up. Now, a report can be available 24-hours after we send it to Docview! (This sometimes takes a couple of days, as the officer has to complete the report and then its reviewed and accepted.) The fee for this is $11.00 ($5.00 Vernon Hills charge and a $6.00 convenience fee to the company). Reports are available from work or home, 24 hours a day via the Internet. Some benefits are:
If you go to the website: Docview.us.com, you won't see us listed on the "What Agencies Use Docview" page yet, but the reports are available, which you can see when you click on the state of Illinois. This system is only for accident reports made on or after January 1, 2010 in Vernon Hills. Accident reports are still available at the station for the $5.00 fee, but will not be mailed; you have to pick them up in person, which means at least one trip to the PD, maybe two. You can come in person, fax or e-mail the Report Request Form (PDF) (Microsoft Word). The fax number for our Communications Section is: (847)549-8028. |
