February 10, 2011 - Have you ever wondered why the police do what they do? Check out the Vernon Hills Police Department's Citizen Police Academy!
The Vernon Hills Citizen's Police Academy (CPA) is a community-oriented policing program designed for Vernon Hills residents. The objective is to provide our residents with an understanding of the Village of Vernon Hills' mission, values and operations within the Vernon Hills Police Department.
The CPA allows members of the police department and citizens of Vernon Hills to meet, share ideas and information, and interact in a very positive and proactive setting.
The program includes classroom training, open discussion, demonstrations, hands-on practicals and ride-alongs. Some of the topics covered include Patrol Operations, Use of Force, Firearms (including use of the range), Evidence Collection and Rapid Deployment.
Our first class for Spring 2011 will be held on Wednesday, March 23, from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm at the Vernon Hills Police Department's training facility at 740 Lakeview Parkway. We will meet each subsequent Wednesday through June 8, 2011.
We have a very informative program developed; one that should give you some insight into the types of training the officers of your police department receive, and the types of activities your police department participates in.
If you are interested in enrolling for our Spring class, a registration form and a waiver of liability must be completed and returned to Officer Sharon Joseph no later than Wednesday, March 9. There are only a few slots available; the class will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so contact Officer Joseph now!
Please note: Admission to the class is conditional upon a successful criminal history background check, which will be completed for each participant. This is done in order to maintain the integrity of the program, as sensitive information will be covered that is not available to the general public. If you have any concerns regarding this process, please contact Officer Joseph.
Officer Sharon Joseph is the coordinator of the program and can be reached by e-mail or by calling 847-247-4889.
