More Scams

December 2, 2010 – Lincolnshire Police have received numerous complaints about a phone scam.  Residents have received automated phone calls that say a problem has come up with the person’s bank accounts and debit cards.  People are instructed to enter their debit/credit card number and pin number.  These are fraudulent phone calls and people should never provide their personal information in response to an automated message like this!  Always check with your bank before providing confidential information.

Vernon Hills has not received any reports like this, but we wanted to keep you informed.

And another scam that was received via e-mail is the following:

“ADOBE PDF READER SOFTWARE UPGRADE NOTIFICATION

This is to remind that a new version of Adobe Acrobat Reader with enhanced features for viewing, creating, editing, printing and internet-sharing PDF documents has been released.

To upgrade your application:

+Go to http://www.adobe-2011-downloads.net
+ Get your options, download and upgrade.

Once again, this realistic message is a phishing scheme, so please don’t respond to it.  Always go to a provider’s website (or contact them via telephone) to confirm the information in the e-mail.  Never respond to an unsolicited e-mail.
