Promotions at VHPD
In a joint ceremony held on Wednesday, December 14, two members of the Vernon Hills Police Department received much deserved promotions.

First, Sgt. Jeff Cielak, a 17-year member of VHPD, was promoted to the rank of Commander. Jeff has worked the majority of his career as a member of the Patrol Division, where he has functioned (in addition to being a shift supervisor) as a Field Training Officer, Juvenile Officer, Background Investigator, Fitness Coordinator, Bicycle Officer and Evidence Technician. He also served as the School Resource Officer at the VHHS and is a graduate (and a Dean Scholar) of the 3-month Administrative Officers Course at the Southern Police Institute in Louisville.

During his comments to those in attendance, Chief Fleischhauer pointed out that Jeff was the main coordinator of the Run From The Cops 5K. During it's 5-year run, the event raised over $60,000.00 to benefit wounded veterans.

Jeff's promotion ceremony was followed by that of Officer Daniel Hill, who was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Dan has been a member of VHPD since 1999. While assigned to the Patrol Division he has served as a Juvenile Officer, Evidence Technician, Field Training Officer, Use of Force Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Truck Enforcement Officer, NIPAS Team member and shift OIC (Officer In Charge).

For four years Dan was an Investigator, during which time he received a number of Department awards. One of these awards was for his hard work which resulted in the arrest of several people who were responsible for many thefts from customers at fast food restaurants. Another was for his investigation of a burglary to a construction trailer, which ultimately cleared a dozen similar cases in six communities.

Both Jeff and Dan are currently assigned as patrol shift supervisors. Congratulation guys! We're proud of you!
