Cops on Rooftop
Cops on Rooftop to Benefit Special Olympics

Recap of the 2016 Cops on Rooftop
For four early morning hours on Friday, May 20, 2016, patrons at the Hawthorn Hills Shopping Center  were greeted by Vernon Hills police officers and many other department employees in order to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics of Illinois (SOILL). Those donating money for the cause received a coupon for a free doughnut.  Those who donated $5 were treated to the sight of a "Munchkin Drop," where our officer "on rooftop" dropped a Munchkin, hopefully into the mouth of a waiting cop on the ground.  Those who donated $10 or more received a travel mug and a coupon for free coffee.

Thanks to the beautiful weather and everyone's hard work, we hit yet another Department high and raised $2,312.87! (In 2015 the total was $2,215.00. In 2014 - $1,750.00. In 2013 - $1,300.00.)  It also brought our total from the eight years we have participated to $13,377.87!!) Once again, the amount of people willing to donate to this cause and the amount that was raised is truly amazing. Thanks to all!

A HUGE thank you goes out to Dunkin' Donuts, without whose cooperation this event would not have been possible. Thanks also to the Vernon Hills Public Works Department!

Here's some pictures from the 2016 event, including a picture of two local queens that stopped by to say hello. (Miss Teen Illinois International Lindsey Pearlman and MAC-Illinois Pre-Teen Tatum Pearlman)

Other SOILL Fundraising Efforts

This program is the second of three main efforts by the Department to raise money for the SOIL. On Sunday, February 28, 2016, about a dozen representatives participated in the Polar Plunge and raised just under $3,300.00. On Sunday, June 5, representatives of the VHPD will run a three-mile leg through Vernon Hills in the Torch Run for the Special Olympics.
