Electric Aggregation 2012

By now all eligible residential customers should have received a letter from the Village, noted on the front of the envelope “NOTICE: Change to Electric Supplier.” This letter introduces Integrys Energy Services as the Village of Vernon Hills alternative energy supplier.

If you have an alternative energy supplier or a special ComEd rate, then a letter was not sent to your house.

If the aforementioned exceptions do not apply to you and a letter was not sent to your house, please contact Integrys at 877-394-4571. You will then have the opportunity to review the Integrys information and have another choice for electricity supply. Also more information is on the Village website at www.vernonhills.org.

On Friday, April 27, 2012, the Village of Vernon Hills and our partners Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Palatine, and Wheeling (Northwest Consortium) contracted with Integrys Energy Services for electric supply as allowed by State law and approved by Vernon Hills’ voters on March 20, 2012.

As residential and for some small business customers, you will be receiving information from Integrys and the Village. Please note the information below, some of which will be sent directly to your home or business. The information you will receive in the mail will explain how to participate or opt out.

Excellent web sites for more information include:

  • Integrys at www.integrysenergy.com/il-vernonhills or (877)394-4571
  • Illinois Commerce Commission’s Plug In Illinois Power at ww.pluginillinois.org

ELECTRIC AGGREGATION

  • Vernon Hills’ voters approved Electric Aggregation at the March 20 election.
  • Vernon Hills has been working with Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, Long Grove, Lincolnshire, Wheeling and Palatine (Northwest Consortium) to review proposals.
  • The Consortium approved numbers from our bids on April 27.
  • The accepted bid from Integrys is 42% below the current ComEd supply rate. In addition to a substantial savings on electricity costs, the Village’s new program will ensure that the fees paid for electricity generation go to fund renewable energy sources, primarily wind, and most of it from Illinois sources.

Other than the price and supplier, nothing regarding your electricity service will change. You will continue to receive one monthly bill from ComEd. ComEd will continue to deliver your electricity, restore power following an outage, and be responsible for maintaining the system that delivers power to your home.

Of course, every residential customer has the option to choose their electric provider, whether it’s staying with ComEd, staying with an alternative energy provider that you have already signed on with, or a new provider such as Integrys with the Vernon Hills program, or another provider.

  • With the current ComEd rate, the average user should save $150-200 annually.
  • Total savings for 12 month period is $1,853,904 at current ComEd rates. $1,171,422 with factor of new ComEd rate (6/1/12)
  • Residents and small business will receive a mailing that explains the program and allows customers to opt out by post card, contacting Integrys toll free at (877)394-4571 or online at www.integrysenergy.com/il-vernonhills  by May 22, 2012.
  • If you choose to opt in to the Municipal Electric Aggregation Program, you do not have to take any action.
  • Customers in either the PIPP (Percentage of Income Payment Plan) or Electric Space Heat Plan will be evaluated for inclusion.
  • Small commercial businesses, defined as 15,000 kwh annually or less, are included.
  • Those residents, who have already chosen a third party provider, will not be receiving any opt-out material. They have already been removed from the Aggregation.  At expiration, you can decide whether to opt in to the Municipal Program, stay with the current provider, or default to ComEd. Current Integrys customers will be switched to the new lower rate.
  • The Program will start at the first meter read after enrollment through the last meter read on or before June 30, 2013.
  • The Village Utility Tax Collection will be reduced in total by approximately $90,000 of the current annual collection.
  • In the spring of 2013, the Village will again evaluate the electric supply market to determine whether requests for proposal will be solicited. No matter what option you chose, you will always have electrical service. By law, ComEd must provide electrical service.
  • The only solicitation that customers will receive from the Village and Integrys is the Opt-Out letter and information packet postmarked May 9th. Anyone one who calls or sends other information claiming to have a partnership or agreement with the Village is not legitimate.  In this case, the Village encourages you to contact the Police Department by dialing 9-1-1 and providing information about the solicitation
  • There are Illinois Commerce Commission certified suppliers that provide electric service. It is recommended that electric rates be compared, in addition to contract terms and conditions such as term of the agreement, penalty fees, etc.
