The primary responsibility of the Building Division is to review building permit applications, inspect construction work, and provide technical assistance to residents and contractors. The Building Division issues Certificates of Occupancies for newly occupied buildings and performs property maintenance inspections. Because the Building Code and Village Ordinances are sometimes difficult to interpret, questions may arise. The Village of Vernon Hills Building Division, in its desire to be helpful, has prepared informational packets for several types of projects. You are encouraged to consult the Building Division whenever in doubt as to any requirements or procedures.
The Building Division makes every attempt to process building permit applications as expeditiously as possible. Depending on our workload, residential permit applications will be processed within 15 working days of receipt and commercial permit applications within 20 working days of receipt. A representative from the Building Division will contact the applicant upon review of the application. Your patience and understanding will be appreciated.
