New Resident Information

 Vehicle Stickers

  • The Village does not enforce the purchasing and displaying of vehicle stickers on the windshields of resident vehicles; therefore vehicle stickers are not required but are available.

Registering Your Pets

  •  You do not need to register your pets with the Village; however, you are required to register each pet with Lake County.  Please call Lake County’s Animal Control at: (847) 949-9925.

  • Stray Cats:  The Village of Vernon Hills recommends contacting Spay and Stay for free-roaming and/or abandoned domestic cats in our area.  Spay and Stay uses a humane technique called Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) to control and reduce the population of unaltered cats.  Call 847-289-4557 for more information 

Discarding of Hazardous Household Materials and Solid Waste

  • Please call the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) at (847) 336-9340 or visit their website at:  www.swalco.org
  • To discard of household latex paint, you have the option of purchasing cat litter at your local store or going to our local public works facility located at 490 Greenleaf, for free crushed corn cobs.  Place the proper amount of either substance in each paint can to absorb the excess paint.  Once the paint has been fully absorbed, you can place the cans, with the absorbed paint remaining inside, and lids removed, at the curb for the garbage company to take them on your regular pick-up day.
 Garbage Service, Recycling, Yardwaste 
  • All residentail areas homes are serviced by VEOLIA Waste Company for garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection.  Please call:  (847) 623-3870 to set up service.
  • Please note that all trash, garbage and yard waste containers must be stored out of public view. 
Sewer and Water Service and/or Problems
  • For set-up for water service or problems that may occur with your service, please contact Lake County Public Works at 847-377-7500.
High-Speed Internet Access and Digital Cable
  • Contact Comcast at the number provided for the type of service needed:   Cable, Internet, or Phone Service   1-866-594-1234; or
  • AT&T U-verse is availalbe is select areas thoughout the Village.  Please contact them at 1-800-288-2020 or http://www.att.com/u-verse/ to find out if the services are available in your area.

Village Events

 Zoning Info., Building Codes, and Ordinances

 Voter Registration and Absentee Voting
  •  Voter Registration is available at the Village Hall amongst other locations.  You will be required to show two forms of identification both which show your current Vernon Hills address. These may include a Driver’s License, and any pre-printed bill statement or such you may have.  The best times to register in person are between the hours of 8:30 am -12 Noon, and 2:00 pm-5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  Voter registration will not be available the last 30 days prior to an election, and will resume within two days after an election. 
  • Information regarding Voter Absentee Ballots can be obtained through the County Clerk’s Office by calling 847-377-2406.  Forms to be completed and mailed to the County for an absentee ballot to be mailed are available at the Village Hall or by downloading from the County Clerk’s website https://www.lakecountyil.gov/CountyClerk/default.htm Questions regarding if you are a registered voter in Vernon Hills can be directed to the County Clerk’s Office by calling their Voter Registration number at 847-377-2410.
  • Questions regarding where your polling place is or if it has changed can be directed to the County Clerk’s Office by calling their Polling Places number at 847-377-2313.

Passports

  • The Village Hall is a Passport Acceptance Agency. Therefore, to apply for a U.S. Passport, please contact 847-367-3700 to make an appointment.  To view the most current information you will need to bring with you to apply for a passport click here.  Passport applications may also be accepted at the Vernon Hills’ Post Office, or the Vernon Township Office.
 Metra Train Parking
  •  The daily fee for parking at the Metra Station is $1.75 per vehicle.  Parking is first come first serve. The Village Hall offers a 2-Month parking pass for those who use the train on a daily basis that prefer to have the convenience of a pass rather than a $1.75 in change.  The pass costs $55.00 and covers 2 months at a time.  Note, however, that the fee will be pro-rated as each week passes within the two-month period.  Applications may be mailed into the Village Hall along with a $55.00 check a week to two weeks prior to the beginning of a new two-month period.  Your application will be processed and a parking pass will be mailed back to you. 
 Notary Services
  • The Village Hall offers Notary Services to the public free of charge.  
 No Solicitor Stickers
  •  The Village Hall offers “No Soliciting” stickers for residents who wish to have one displayed on or near their front door of their home.  This sticker prevents any solicitor from approaching your home.  However, if one should, and you have your sticker displayed, we request that you call the Police Department at 847-362-4449, and report the person or person(s) who had violated our policy.
