Vernon Hills Quiet Zone and the Sounding of Train Horns

Late last year the Canadian National railroad opened the first of two new tracks connecting the EJ&E to CN's Wisconsin Central property which is west of the Prairie Material concrete plant on Butterfield Road.   This work will continue through most of 2012, as the CN works to complete the second track.  Crews mobilize well before daylight hours and work beyond dusk. An engineer by rules is required to sound horns in these construction areas.  This is one of the exceptions from the Quiet Zone rules.    As a result several areas of the Village may hear train horns during this construction while crews are working.
