With the tremendous growth and popularity of cell phones, computers and the internet, digital evidence has begun to play an important role in the criminal courtroom.  Recognizing the importance and value of digital evidence, the Vernon Hills Police Department established a Computer Crimes Unit.  Computer Forensics is the discovery, collection, analysis and archiving of digital evidence.  The process of recovering digital evidence has become significant in apprehending cyber-criminals, ranging from child pornographers to cyber scam-artists.  Members of the Computer Crimes Unit receive extensive training and further their expertise through their involvement in electronic crimes task forces.
