VA Medical Center Holiday Visit

VA Medical Center Holiday Visit

On December 19, 2016 over a dozen members of the Vernon Hills Police Department and many, many family members and friends traveled to the VA Medical Center in North Chicago for the Department's 11th annual Visit with the Veterans holiday event. (The facility is formally known as the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center.)

Our group (pictured below) visited with dozens of veterans. Not only did the veterans enjoy the company and conversation, but most of them were happy to take cookies and candy off of our hands. Many of the vets were also given a homemade blanket, courtesy of a group member.

The Medical Center visit is a simple, yet meaningful way for us to say thanks to those who have served our country, and for the veterans to share their memories of service with the Department. (This is not the only veteran-related activity that the Vernon Hills Police Department is involved in. Check out the Operation Stand Down coat drive.)
